Who We Are

Scottish Claims Helpline was established to provide people across Scotland with straightforward access to specialist legal help. We understand the Scottish legal system - from Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session to NHS Scotland and Scottish-specific legislation - and we work exclusively with Law Society regulated solicitors who have proven expertise in each claim category.

We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA Reference Number: FRN 830381). You can verify our registration on the FCA Register.

What We Do

When you contact Scottish Claims Helpline, we take the time to understand your situation and assess whether you have a viable claim. We then connect you with the most appropriate specialist solicitor from our panel - one with specific expertise in your claim type and familiarity with Scottish courts and procedures.

Our service is completely free to you at the initial stage. There is no charge for your assessment, and any solicitor we refer you to will work on a no win no fee basis, meaning you pay nothing unless your claim succeeds.

Our Claim Specialisms

We help with a wide range of claims under Scottish law, including personal injury (road accidents, workplace accidents, public place accidents), medical and clinical negligence against NHS Scotland, industrial disease (mesothelioma, asbestos-related conditions, industrial deafness, vibration white finger), equal pay claims against councils and supermarkets, fatal accident claims under the Damages (Scotland) Act, and many more.

Why Scotland Matters

Scotland has its own distinct legal system, separate from English law. The key pieces of legislation governing compensation claims in Scotland include the Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973, the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014, and the Damages (Scotland) Act 2011. Time limits, court procedures and awards can differ significantly from those in England and Wales. This is why it is important to use a service - and solicitors - who specifically understand Scottish law.

Our Track Record

Scottish Claims Helpline has been operating for over 11 years. In that time we have referred thousands of clients across Scotland to specialist solicitors, helping them secure compensation across a wide range of claim types. Our experience spans group actions, employment law, equal pay, personal injury and industrial disease.

Equal Pay — Scottish Councils

We have referred thousands of claimants in equal pay actions against Scottish local councils, working with specialist employment solicitors. These cases involve predominantly female workers in care, cleaning and catering roles who were paid less than male counterparts in comparable roles.

Scottish Claims Helpline clients were part of the North Ayrshire Council equal pay settlement, in which our referred claimants received approximately £1.875 million in total compensation. Dallas McMillan solicitors, who handle these cases, also secured a landmark Employment Tribunal victory against Fife Council in 2023 after seven years of litigation, and settled a separate multi-million pound equal pay action covering over 800 individual claimants. Ongoing cases continue at the Employment Tribunal against Dundee City Council and others.

Equal Pay — Supermarkets

We have referred significant numbers of current and former supermarket employees — Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Co-op — in equal pay actions. These cases argue that predominantly female in-store roles were paid less than predominantly male distribution and warehouse roles despite being of equal value under the Equality Act 2010. The UK Supreme Court has confirmed that shop floor workers can compare themselves to distribution centre workers, significantly strengthening the position of claimants.

Uber Drivers Employment Compensation

Following the landmark UK Supreme Court ruling in Uber BV v Aslam [2021] UKSC 5, which confirmed that Uber drivers are workers rather than self-employed contractors, Scottish Claims Helpline referred Uber drivers to Dallas McMillan solicitors to pursue compensation for unpaid holiday pay and national minimum wage entitlements. Drivers who worked for Uber between 2015 and 2021 were entitled to claim for lost pay. Scottish Claims Helpline’s referred clients received approximately £2.425 million in total compensation from this action.

Christies Bakery Hepatitis A Compensation

Scottish Claims Helpline gathered claimants for compensation following the Christies Bakery Hepatitis A outbreak. Affected customers received settlements of approximately £2,500 each, with claims handled by Lanarkshire Accident Law. This was a time-sensitive group action requiring rapid identification and registration of eligible claimants.

Falsified Vehicle Emissions Compensation

Following the disclosure of falsified vehicle emissions data by major manufacturers, Scottish Claims Helpline referred affected vehicle owners to Dallas McMillan solicitors. Claimants received settlements of approximately £3,000 each in compensation for the diminished value of their vehicles and mis-selling of emissions performance.

Packaged Bank Account Mis-Selling

Scottish Claims Helpline identified and referred clients who had been mis-sold packaged bank accounts by their banks. Claims were handled by The Money Solicitor and resulted in total recoveries of over £1.5 million for our clients, covering charges and fees paid for accounts whose benefits were either unsuitable or had not been properly explained at the point of sale.
